Dry Needling is a different approach to providing pain relief and assist injury rehabilitation.
When pain or injury is present, the tissues both locally and in adjacent areas can be loaded in an abnormal manner – therefore increasing the tension at these sites.
We conduct a thorough biomechanical assessment to identify tissues that might be overloaded. Everyone moves differently, and for this reason, will load different tissues at different rates. This mechanism is changed again following pain and injury, as the body is able to compensate to protect these areas.
Dry needling can help down-regulate these overloaded tissues by reducing myofascial tension, targeting pain. In clinic we use our knowledge of the human body to identify these points and insert sterile needles to that area. The stimulation of these tissues causes a local and systemic response. This allows us to treat dysfunctional movement patterns that often cause abnormal loading of tissue.
This technique is coupled with treatment targeted to increasing the contribution of tissues that are underloaded to reduce the stress on overloaded tissues. Therefore, by creating greater utilisation of available tissues, we aim to increase and improve movement capacity.
